Following Purdue’s 92-88 overtime loss at Northwestern, they have to get right back to work as they host the Iowa Hawkeyes in Mackey Arena Monday night at 7:00pm est.
Iowa enters Monday’s game with a 5-2 record with their two losses being Oklahoma and at Creighton. The Hawkeyes best win comes from an MTE when they defeated Seton Hall 85-72 after being both out rebounded and had more turnovers.
Key to the game : Most people will immediately jump to say commit less turnovers, which is true, but is not going to be my key to the game. My key is to force Iowa to commit more turnovers. Only forcing Northwestern to turn the ball over three times just proves how weak Purdue was defensively. The Boilermakers need to hound the ball and force turnovers in order to not only win Monday night, but to be succesful in March.
Will Trey Kaufman-Renn start? Will Mason Gillis, Caleb Furst start at the four position Monday? I would like to hope the TKR experiment is over, as we all know Painter won’t change lineups while Purdue is winning, but now following a loss it’s time to make a change at the four position. TKR deserves minutes, but his minutes have to come when Edey is on the bench. They cannot share the court together, especially against a team with a stretch four who can shoot.
Best Bets : Over 163.5. Both teams are capable of scoring the ball and Purdue is coming off their poorest shooting performance of the season, in their first game of the year using the Wilson Evolution ball. Purdue will shoot better Monday night, and Iowa is an extremely capable shooting team from deep, they tend to hit anywhere from 6-10 threes a game.
