The Purdue Boilermakers defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions by a final score of 95-78. Purdue’s leading scorers were Zach Edey with 30 points and 20 rebounds, Lance Jones with 14 points and 4 assists, and Fletcher Loyer with 11 points and 3 assists
1st Half
This was the first game for Purdue since the Nebraska loss on the road, and the Boilermakers did not disappoint. Purdue started quick, going on a few really good runs including a 16-0 run around the 15-minute mark, and Edey was feeling comfortable on the court. After two disappointing games for Edey, the 7’4 center started to get back to his old ways, Edey scored 30 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to go along with it. Purdue was hot from behind the arch in the first half, Mason Gillis and Lance Jones were knocking down threes left and right. After a great half of basketball, the Boilermakers led 56-36.
2nd Half
Purdue came out of the gates hot, allowing Edey and Smith to do their thing. Edey was grabbing rebounds and having a huge impact on both sides of the court and Smith’s ball movement was on point, passing for 11 assists tying a career-high, while also grabbing 4 rebounds. Even though Penn State scored more points in the 2nd half, Purdue played much better, Edey stayed in for most of the game, while also giving Furst and Colvin a lot more playing time. Heide, Gillis, Colvin, and Furst all scored 7+ points and were playing great in their roles. The Purdue Boilermakers won 95-78.
Player of The Game: Zach Edey
This was an obvious choice, Edey scored 30 points to go alongside 20 rebounds, this was one of Edey’s career-best games, and that says a lot. Edey was impacting the game like no other player on the court, his size and presence affect players in many different ways, obviously being 7’4 helps but no other 7-footer is doing anything near Edey’s production. Edey is 100% going to win the NPOY, so now it is down to winning games, if Purdue doesn’t have to worry about Edey winning the NPOY then they can worry more about winning basketball games. The Boilermakers are now 15-2 on the year, and we can expect a lot more wins from the Boilermakers.
